ATTENDANCE AT GATHERINGS

Numbers attending our annual gatherings, do not necessarily reflect the health of our Association, but this year's turn-out was disappointing. Admittedly Birkhill was not on the menu but in Blair Castle we were visiting arguably one of Scotland's finest historic homes, still occupied by the chief of one of the major clans - and a Duke forby! Betty's arrangements were impeccable, even ensuring our being conducted round the castle by a Scrimgeour. That really takes some beating!

We are used to an average attendance of approximately 60, we have been as low as 44 (Thirlestane 1986) and interestingly, the next year, 86 at Birkhill and Falkland Palace. I think is our best total to date.

So with only 32 attending this year we must hope, and what is more important, must make every effort for a goodly number next year and beat that 1987 total. There must be other Scrimgeours 'out there', potential Members, and the challenge to all of us is to recruit at least one new Member before our next Gathering, and if only half of those attend, in addition to the faithful, a truly record turn out would be assured!
