SECRETARY'S SPIEL

This - year the weather really excelled itself for the Gathering. Ron and I left Edinburgh early on the Saturday in very 'dreich' weather but a few miles on the sun came out and by the time we reached Blair Atholl it was really strong and we had what proved to be the hottest day we have ever had for our gathering.

The tour of the Castle was really interesting and our guide was Libby Mackintosh (née Scrimgeour) who had a great sense of humour and everyone thoroughly enjoyed what might otherwise have been a rather dull recital of the history of the Castle. The buffet provided by the Tilt Hotel was excellent and much appreciated by all present - our numbers may have been the smallest ever but we still had a most enjoyable evening.

Our American representative Nan Weston has reluctantly resigned due to family and business reasons but we really do, appreciate all she has done for the Clan over the last nine years - well done Nan. However, Jim Scrimger of Rancho Palos Verdes, California is taking over the job and already - is doing some genealogy research through the Mormon church who have all the records on their computers, and has been in touch with our representatives. Thanks again to Jim for his assistance.

Please keep your letters coming with your subscriptions as it is interesting to hear what other members are doing. I hope that Catherine Scrimgeour of New Zealand enjoyed her "Anne of Greengables" tour to the West Coast of America and to the maritime states of Canada.

Jack Scrimgeour, one of our representatives in Canada, is finding that although he has retired, life is busier than ever but he and his wife Pat are still keeping up their Scottish Country dancing and hope to make it over to the 1993 Gathering.

Another representative. in New Zealand, Harry Scrimgeour and his wife Claire have been 'globe trotting'- in Oregon last year and to Brazil this year and with a bit of luck will try to make it to Scotland next year; be glad to see you both again.

Glad to hear that Don & Joan Scrimgeour. South Australia are keeping busy with hospital visits and entertaining friends from Perth, Scotland.
