OVERSEAS SECTION

CONGRATULATIONS TO RICHARD SCRIMGER

Congratulations are due to Richard Scrimger of Port Hope, Ontario, Canada on his being one of the three winners of the 10th annual Mr. Christie Book award. Mr. Scrimger received an award of $2500 for his book, The Nose from Jupiter, published in Canada by Tundra Books McClelland & Stewart Young Readers, Toronto, Ont. 156 pp.

His book, which is for children of ages 8 - 11, tells the story of a young schoolboy who is bullied by others until a tiny alien from Jupiter arrives and comes to his aid. It is described in the Globe and Mail, one of Canada's leading national newspapers, as the story of "Alan Dingwall, 13, [who] has an alien from Jupiter living in his nose -- the basis of a very funny, very good novel".

Another recent children's book by Richard Scrimger is entitled The Way to Schenectady. Both books acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts. Again, congratulations to Richard on this well deserved recognition and success.
